The board of Tenpin Bowling Australia (TBA) would like to announce the appointment of Australian Wallaby star and current Super Rugby captain of the Melbourne Rebels, Matt To’omua, to its board.
The appointment of Matt To’omua fills a casual vacancy on the TBA board. To’omua joins the board with extensive expertise and experience in an elite sporting environment that will provide tremendous value and depth to the board’s structure.
“Matt’s experience as the President of the Rugby Union Players Association (RUPA) and Player Director of Rugby Players Welfare, as well as his relationships across the sporting landscape both as a sports administrator and a high-performance athlete, provide a unique skill set to the governance of our sport,” said Jerome Joseph, Chair of TBA.
In addition to advising on critical improvement to TBA’s High-Performance program, To’omua will support some of the constitutional modernisation initiatives underway and facilitate stronger relations with Sport Australia by aligning with their governance principles under the new NSO template. To’omua will work closely with newly appointed CEO Rohan O’Neill and the Chair of the Governance Committee, Hish Fernando.
On the field, To’omua is one of Australia’s most prolific sports professionals who has fulfilled leadership appointments bestowed throughout a 15-year professional athlete career. Off the field, To’omua holds key positions on several boards supported by a Masters of Business Administration and a desire in enhancing opportunities in sport for future generations.
“Joining the TBA board is very exciting,” said To’omua. “I will attempt to leverage my experience in high performance both as a player and Rugby Union Players Association President. The opportunity to still be involved as an athlete and at the board level is something I’m very excited about. I have high aspirations of being involved in sports administration post my playing career, and I see this as an exciting part of that journey. I look forward to learning from the current board and adding value where I can”.
CEO of the Melbourne Rebels Baden Stephenson stated “We’re pleased to hear about Matt’s appointment to Tenpin Bowling Australia and its great to see the interaction between our Melbourne Rebels players in other sports utilising a different set of skills. It’s another reason why Melbourne is truly a sporting capital”.
TBA continues to move forward at pace in its quest to evolve and grow the sport of Tenpin Bowling. The board of Tenpin Bowling Australia welcome Matt to the board and are excited about the impact he will provide in his new position.
The role will be Melbourne based, and with the rise of the post-COVID-19 virtual meetings, To’omua has great flexibility around his playing and training schedule.
