Three bowlers who represented Australia at the 2015 Women’s World Championships will return to the team alongside three rookies following the announcement of the Australian team to contest the Women’s World Championships in Las Vegas from 22nd – 30th August.
Australia’s leading female bowler Bec Whiting has been named in the team for a fourth time having competed at the 2011, 2013 and 2015 events. Whiting will be joined by Narelle Baker competing at her third World Women’s, with Dena Buxton returning to the team following her inclusion in 2015. The trio will be joined by Bree Macpherson, Bek Martin and Jaimie-Lee Spiller, who will don the green and gold shirt for the first time.
Team well prepared
Following the announcement, head coach Dean Champ said the team would be well prepared to face the best in the World when the tournament begins.
“I am looking forward to the challenge of going to Las Vegas in August with this team to compete against the best women bowlers in the world, and I believe we have a team that is going to be competitive on whatever conditions we face over there. The athletes are all training hard and I am leaving nothing to chance when it comes to preparing ourselves for the tournament,” Champ said.
The team will bring form in to the event. Whiting has won the Fishing World & Outdoor Ladies Classic in Darwin in January, the Wellington Open in February, the Vic 150 in April and has made it to the Top 32 of the USBC Queens event, currently underway in Wichita Kansas. Martin finished second in the Fishing World event in February, and is also competed in the USBC Queens, making it through to the bracket-round. Macphersons best result this year on the TBA ranked-event calendar is a 2nd at the Vic 150, where Buxton finished in third.
The 2019 event will be held at the South Point Bowling Plaza in Las Vegas from 22nd – 30th August welcoming the best female bowlers from around the world who will compete for medals in singles, doubles, trios, five person teams as well as the Masters event.
