The PBA Tour rolls on this week with the Storm Cup: David Small’s Best of the Best Championship set to get underway in Jackson, Michigan.
Following a gruelling U.S. Open schedule where bowlers bowled 56 game totals, the touring Australians are ready to go again following impressive results at the U.S. Open.
Jason Belmonte entered his second straight TV show final as the fifth seed at the U.S. Open. Defeating Jake Peters and AJ Johnson, Belmonte’s run would end against eventual champion Anthony Simonsen. However, Jason would continue his red-hot start to the season, finishing in third place and collecting $25,000.
After scraping into the cut finishing in 24th place after the four qualifying rounds, Sam Cooley moved up throughout the matchplay rounds. Cooley would finish with 17 wins, six losses and one tie –the most wins behind AJ Johnson and tournament leader EJ Tackett in match play. Grabbing his first top ten result of the year, Sam finished in 9th place.
Jackson, Michigan plays the host of the next stop on the PBA Tour – The Storm Cup: David Small’s Best of the Best Championship. A smaller event than the two preceding it will see bowlers compete over two days.
Western Australian Callum Borck finished in 46th place at the Pre-Tournament Qualifier, averaging 189.50 and will not compete in the final field for this event.
As always, please head to pba.com and FloBowling will be streaming the action as always for Australian subscribers.
We wish Jason and Sam the best of luck and high scoring at the next event!
