Bowler Bio
Bernie Grueso Jnr’s earliest memory of bowling was rolling balls down the lane before he eventually started practising at the age of 4-5 years. It was only a year or so later that the Victorian-born player was watching his father’s league matches and wanting to be able to hook the ball like them.
Googling “How to hook a bowling ball”, Bernie stumbled across a video of Jason Belmonte and decided to give two-handed bowling a try. The style was an instant match for the youngster, especially with how much the ball was hooking.
Since then, Bernie has fast become one of the best youth bowlers in Australia with three Werribee Youth Cup titles (2017, 2020, 2022) to his name – the only bowler to have achieved this feat.
It’s only just the start for Bernie, who has high aspirations for his bowling career including going on to be one of the greatest PBA bowlers of all time. He also wants to be able to give back to the sport that has given him so much.
Bernie’s love for tenpin bowling is evident through his passion for the game. He enjoys all the little things about the sport from the competitive nature and the highs and lows of competing to the lifelong friends he has made along the way.
