Kegel QLD Open Gets Underway

March 12, 2019

The first open ranked event of 2019 will begin at Caboolture Bowl tomorrow evening when the Kegel QLD Open gets underway.
The annual tournament which attracts the best male and female bowlers from across Australia and New Zealand will see the 2019 winner take home $3000 in prize money.

When A squad gets underway on Friday at 6.30pm local time bowling fans will be able to tune into the action via Cabbowl-live and watch powerful left hander and 2018 third place getter – Jarrod Langford. Squad A will also feature former Australian representative and captain of the victorious Vic All Stars in series 2 of Rollin Thunder – Adam Hayes.

On Saturday qualifying will get underway early at 7.30am Queensland time with squad B featuring Bec Whiting. As Australia’s leading female bowler, Whiting finished 8th in last year’s tournament and with a re-vamped finals system in 2019, the right hander will be in contention on Sunday.

Squad B will also feature George Frilingos who finished second to Sam Cooley last year. With Cooley preparing to compete at the World Series of Bowling in the US, Frilingos will be one of the favourites and the veteran knows how to win on the Caboolture lanes.

On Sunday afternoon at 1.30pm Squad C will complete their 12 games of qualifying and Glen Loader will be one to watch. The former Australian Masters winner has the experience to win and viewers will also get to see rising star Jayden Panella attempt to qualify.

On Saturday night bowling fans will see squad D hit the lanes with Rollin Thunder star and former Korean representative – Minhee Kim competing alongside the powerful James Sitters.

On Sunday the finals will begin with the top 32 bowling a further 4 games, and the top 16 progressing to stage 4. With a further 4 games bowled the top 8 will be completed and will move into a new finals format where bowlers will playoff with 1v4, 2v3, 5v8 and 6v7 and ultimately progressing through to the final.

The tournament will also see one youth bowler from the event win a spot to compete in the NZ Kegel Classic in September, courtesy of tournament sponsor Kegel.

To catch the action this weekend head down to Caboolture Bowl & Mini Golf, 207 Morayfield Rd, Morayfield or watch it on the live stream all weekend at Cabbowl-live
