Tenpin Bowling Australia (TBA) have today announced that the 2020 National Rankings Point system has been cancelled.
On the 28th April, TBA’s advice indicated that all scheduled accredited and ranked events until the 30th June were cancelled or postponed. Due to the prolonged COVID-19 restrictions in place across the country, TBA has made the decision to cancel the 2020 National Rankings.
Several factors have influenced this decision which include –
• Ongoing uncertainty on when bowling centres will be able to re-open to full capacity to run events
• Some events will not run this year resulting in an incomplete schedule across all divisions
• Uncertainty as to whether events can be rescheduled to a suitable date later in the year
• When and if the easing of interstate travel restrictions will occur allowing bowlers across Australia the opportunity to compete
The decision to remove the points system for the year does not prevent ranked events from running in 2020. Once we have further clarity on when events can be conducted, TBA will devise a new ranked event schedule giving consideration to events already on the calendar and the option to reschedule other major tournaments impacted by COVID-19.
TBA will be in contact with event coordinators in the coming days to discuss the options available.
