COMING SOON! Fast emerging as Australia’s premier nationally ranked event for Junior bowlers, the QUEENSLAND JUNIOR CUP is attracting entries Australia-wide as players, officials and supporters prepare to travel to the stunning Moreton Bay region north of Brisbane for the 2021 QJC.
The seventh edition of the QJC will be staged at Caboolture Bowl in Morayfield on the Long Weekend of 1-3 May 2021.
“As we emerge from the uncertainty of COVID-related travel restrictions the sport’s tournament calendar is quickly filling up with bowlers across the country keen to get back on the lanes,” commented South Queensland Junior Tenpin Committee President Nathan Stein. “Brian Bates and the team are very experienced tournament hosts and it’s an ideal venue in a popular destination …. the surge of applications we’re receiving indicates another highly successful QJC is in store,” Stein said.
An exciting innovation with this year’s QJC is the introduction of re-entry registrations, a format change that is seeing squads fill quickly, and prompting the tournament committee to open more squads than originally planned.
Another exciting opportunity has arisen due to the rescheduling of the 2021 South Queensland Zone Championships to October – the highest placed SQ junior in the Open Boys and Open Girls events at the QJC will earn the right to represent South Queensland at the Junior National Masters during the AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS in Hobart in July.
The 2021 Queensland Junior Cup is open to TBA-registered bowlers 18 years and under. Players will compete over three days, strictly observing the COVID-safe guidelines imposed by the Queensland government that have enabled Centres across the State to provide invaluable competition and recreational opportunities for people of all ages to enjoy tenpin bowling during the pandemic.
Equal prize money for the top 8 male and female players, an increased prize pool for Graded bowlers and national ranking points add to the appeal of this year’s QJC tournament which showcases the emerging talent and inclusiveness of this popular sport. The winners of the perpetual Fletcher Family Trophy for sportsmanship and performance and the 2021 Storm Star Search Awards will be presented with brand new bowling balls by BPD Bowling Australia, national distributor for STORM bowling products.
2020 Open division champions Jackson Buckingham and Jessica Canfield, together with Graded champion Brock Gordon will be back this year to defend their titles, with entries received from as far as Western Australia and Tasmania. “Officials and dozens of local bowlers from the Moreton Bay region, Brisbane and the Gold Coast will welcome the out-of-town players but interstate rivalry is sure to kick in once that first ball is bowled,” added Stein with a wide grin.
