Bec Whiting has won a record sixth Queensland Ladies Classic title after defeating Alicia Melton in yesterday’s final at Caboolture Bowl.

With a new finals format Whiting qualified as the second seed after stage 2 with Minhee Kim entering the finals as the number one.

In the first round of the finals Whiting drew Melton in a second versus third shootout with Melton winning both matches 184-182 and 226-199.

Whiting survived and drew sixth seed Cheryl Womack. With the loser bowing out of the tournament, Whiting hit back to win 234-176 to progress to round three.

In round three Whiting drew former Korean representative and number one seed Minhee Kim. In another one game shootout Whiting proved the victor bowling 207-191 to move into the final.

After losing both matches to Melton in round one, Whiting had an opportunity to gain revenge. With two ranked events in 2019 under her belt, the nerves didn’t get to the Victorian and the match saw Whiting bowl a huge 246 game and with Melton bowling 182, Whiting took out the the 2019 title and claiming a record sixth Queensland Ladies Classic and the high game of the tournament with 290 in qualifying.

Alicia Melton finished in second place with Minhee Kim rounding out the podium in third.

Following the 21st running of the tournament, Brian Bates gave thanks to the bowlers and sponsors.

“Thanks to all 49 bowlers and all of our sponsors.  Big Girls Don’t Cry Anymore have committed to next year already for the 22nd year of sponsoring this great event,” Bates wrote.
