Dinham & Jones Take Out Final Ranked Event of 2018

Tuesday, November 06, 2018

Jordan Dinham and Chloe Jones have finished the year on a high, winning the Youth Champion of Champions and finishing 2018 as the number one ranked youth bowlers in Australia.

The two-day event concluded at Zone Bowling Richlands with both bowlers taking the 2018 titles following Sunday’s match play rounds.

After finishing qualifying in top place, both Dinham and Jones had 5 matches in front of them in order to lift the 2018 trophy.

For Dinham it was a strong start after winning the opening match.  In the second match the New South Welshman didn’t gain any points but with the podium in sight, took the valuable 20 bonus pins in each of the final 3 matches to finish in 1st place with a pinfall of 5121.  Fellow, New South Welshman, William Clark (4987) finished in second, with 2017 winner Blayne Fletcher (4880) finishing in third.  The win saw Dinham claim top spot in the 2018 youth rankings as well as this year’s junior rankings.

Before the match play rounds, Dinham sat in second place after the opening 10 games with Fletcher leading by the slim margin of 17 pins.  After averaging 218 in the opening block, Dinham bowled an impressive 300 in game 6.

In stage 2 of qualifying the 17-year-old pushed past Fletcher to move into 1st place averaging 221 and head into the match play rounds.

In the girls division, Chloe Jones was the top seed heading into the match play rounds.  After dropping the first match, Jones found her line to win the remaining 4 matches and after collecting 80 bonus pins, it was enough to see the 19-year-old finish 72 pins ahead of next best, Jodie Kos (4537) and Emily Bottomley (4338) who rounded out the podium.  The win saw Jones pip Kos at the post claiming top spot on the youth rankings, finishing only 5 points ahead of Kos.

For Jones, who was a part of Queensland’s winning Rachuig team only a week ago, it was about leading from the front, with the Townsville bowler sitting in 1st place after 10 games of qualifying and stage 2.
