Muir & Baker Win Sydney Seniors Classic

Former Australian representative Michael Muir has wound back the clock to take victory alongside dominant senior Jeanette Baker at the weekends Sydney Seniors Classic.

Muir, who entered his first ranked event of 2018, took the title averaging 214 across the 16 games.  Defending champion Jim Karakostas left his run for the title late on day 2 of competition to eventually fall 64 pins short of Muir.  Third place saw 2018 Queensland Hammer Classic winner Andrew Thorpe round out the podium, averaging 206.

Bowling over the card on 7 of his opening 8 games, Muir finished day 1 with a lead of 14 pins from Dale Stewart and Thorpe in third, with defending champion Karakostas back in sixth.  On day 2, Muir found his line bowling over the card in 6 of the 8 games that included 239 in game 12 to take the win and throw the rankings points open heading into the final event of 2018.

In the Senior Womenís division, defending champion Jeanette Baker won the title by 105 pins from Janet Baker (3266) averaging 210 with Queenslander Julie Harrison finishing in 3rd.

After bowling over the card in 6 of the 8 opening games Jeanette Baker was equal leader with Janet Baker heading into day 2.  After opening on Sunday with 155, Janet Baker bowled under the card in games 3 through to 7 which was the opportunity that Jeanette Baker required to power on and take another ranked event title.

With taking the title in the Seniors Division, Jeanette Baker also claimed the Grand Senior Womenís title finishing 435 pins ahead of next best Heather Robertson (2936) with Vivienne Bissell in third.

In the Grand Senior Menís division Tony Murray averaged 203 to take his first victory by 31 pins from next best Pakhongsith Oudomvilay (3253) and 2018 Venuto Cup winner Jim Bakirtzidis in third.
