Dinham & Phelan Claim Titles at SA Junior Cup

Monday, June 11, 2018

Jordan Dinham and Jamie Phelan have lead from qualifying to win the SA Junior Cup in Adelaide yesterday.

In final, Dinham drew former Hong Kong representative Nixon Chan in the one game shootout for the title.  With it all on the line Dinham charged ahead and took the match and title 258-200 over Chan.

The win saw Dinham take his second junior ranked event title of 2018 and create a 122 point lead at the top of the rankings.

After leading the field on Saturday averaging 204 which included high games of 240 and 278, the Tenpin City bowler charged into stage two of qualifying only 27 pins ahead of Nixon.

On Sunday morning, with six games deciding who goes through to the final, Dinham came out of the blocks slow but found his line in game 3 bowling 235 and 277 in game 5 to finish on top of stage 2 and gain a birth into the final against Chan.

In the girls division, South Australian bowler Jamie Phelan was the best qualifier and drew Ivy Dickinson in the final.  Phelan, who won this year’s Sydney Youth Cup, went toe to toe with the North Queenslander to eventually win the match in the final frame 179-177 to see her claim a second ranked event title in 2018.

After placing herself in contention from the opening games on Saturday morning the Cross Road bowler averaged 185 over the first 10 games of qualifying to create a 70 pin lead from second placed Lilly Wilson, with Dickinson in third.

In stage two, Phelan continued bowling games of 212, 170, 213, 177, 151 and 237 to qualify for the final and see Dickinson move into second and gain a place in the final.
