Belmonte to Contest PBA Tour Finals

Tuesday, May 01, 2018

Jason Belmonte will line up at the PBA Tour Finals on Friday 4th May, in Detroit, Michigan, where the Australian will be shooting for his 18th PBA Tour title.

The event marks the 2018 Go Bowling! PBA Tourís return to CBS Sports Network with a series of five two-hour telecasts, involving the top eight PBA Tour money earners from the 2016, 2017 and the first four months of the 2018 season.

The tournament will use a format dividing the field into two four-player groups for round-robin match play, awarding 50 bonus pins for each match win.  The field will bowl a full round-robin schedule of matches in their respective groups to determine the seeding for a separate stepladder finals in each group (the final match of each groupís stepladder being a two-game total pins match).  Each groupís eventual winners will then meet in a three-game total pins championship match.

EJ Tackett, the 2016 PBA Player of the Year, will return to defend his title after winning the 2017 PBA Tour Finals after he defeated Belmonte, 668-628, in the three-game title match.

The event is touted as a serious test under the TV lights, in a series of different disciplines, against the toughest competition.  It will be a chance for the Australian to get back into the winners circle after finishing fourth at this yearís PBA Tournament of Champions and second at the Barbasol PBA Players Championship after losing to Tom Smallwood 259-239 in the title match.
