First Ladies Ranked Event Kicks Off in Darwin

Thursday, February 01, 2018

Darwin will play host to the first nationally ranked womenís event of 2018 this weekend, with bowlers competing in the Fishing and Outdoor Ladies Classic.

On Saturday, the top end will welcome local and interstate bowlers to Planet Tenpin where a strong field including 2017ís rankings winner Ė Bec Whiting - will be competing for over $4500 in cash and prizes.

Whiting, the 2016 and 2017 champion, will return to Darwin having dominated last yearís tournament, winning by 209 pins.  Following a strong start to the year in 2017 at Planet Tenpin, the Victorian went on to win titles on the menís and womenís circuit, and appeared on the new Rolliní Thunder TV series.

Having finished second in 2016, Narelle Baker will head to the territory looking to go one better this year.  After failing to make the finals in last yearís event, Baker went on to take 100 rankings points at the Vic150 and win the NSW Open to finish second to Whiting in the final rankings.

This weekend will also see Jenny Notman head to Darwin.  Notman who finished fifth in the 2017 rankings and 6th in this tournament last year is due for a win after competing in 6 ranked events in 2017.  With the absence of local star Bec Voukolos she will be fighting it out with a number of local bowlers for a podium finish.
