Whiting Aims At 4th NSW Open Title With Belmonte To Return

Friday, September 08, 2017

With over $28,000 in the prize fund for this weekend’s NSW Open, Bec Whiting will be shooting for her 4th consecutive NSW Open title and will be joined by the top bowlers in Australia including World number one, Jason Belmonte.

After winning the tournament in 2014, 2015 and 2016, Whiting who currently sits on top of the men’s and women’s rankings, enters the tournament searching for her 6th victory on the national circuit this year.

While Whiting will be the favourite come Sunday, fellow Victorian’s Narelle Baker, Bec Martin and Dena Buxton will push Whiting all the way, with Baker no doubt drawing on her success at this year’s Vic 150.

With a strong contingent from Victoria, Bec Voukolos will enter her second ranked event in 2017 and the Territorian has the game to finish on top of the podium this weekend. The Australian representative finished second in Fishing World Ladies Classic this year in Darwin.

Having won the tournament in 2015, Belmonte missed last year’s event but heads back to one of his favoured centres – Tenpin City in search of another victory and further preparation for his 2017 US Open tilt in October.

Fellow PBA bowler Sam Cooley will also be included in this weekend’s field. Having finished 3rd at the Gold Coast Cup last month and after a stint on the PBA Regional circuit this year, the New South Welshman could break through for his first victory on this year’s national circuit.

After winning the tournament in 2015, left hander Jarrod Langford will be back to defend his title and the 20-year-old from North Queensland has the power game to win against the likes of Belmonte and Cooley.

With the men’s field also boasting experienced bowlers George Frilingos and Glen Loader, the match play on Sunday will be something not to miss.

In a bonus to bowlers, Tenpin City will also offer free entry into the USBC Masters and USBC Queens for the respective male and female winners of the event.
