National Youth Event Breaks All Previous Participation Records

A fantastic week of bowling was held at Werribee Super Bowl recently when the cream of Australia’s youth bowlers came together to compete in the Tenpin Bowling Australia National Youth Cup and Youth Teams Challenge.

With Werribee Super Bowl hosting this fun filled well loved event for the 5th time, experienced bowlers and a large number of bowers new to the event quickly settled down to compete within this unique Centre which provides customer service second to none.

The bowler voted by his peers to receive the male Sports Person Award Dion Alexander said when asked to comment about the event; "Nothing is too much trouble for Edi and Doriana who go out of their way to make sure that every bowler has a awesome time at Werribee."

When asked for an overview of the Youth Tournament, Tournament Director John Coxon commented.  "The quality of the up-and-coming Youth bowers suggests that bowling has a strong future within Australia;  "I was really proud to see the best youth bowlers in Australia rise to the occasion when faced with challenging lane conditions and simply get on with the job. They didn’t complain they just did their best and participated in the true spirit of elite competition."

10 Teams, including an international entry from New Zealand competed in the National Youth Challenge which was hotly contested right up until the last game. In the end NSW took out the Combined Teams Challenge by 146 points with the NSW team also winning the Female Youth Team Challenge by 70 points.

The Winning Male Youth Team was Western Australia who in the end prevented  a clean sweep by NSW by only 9 points.

While, Jacinta Gilliland from Queensland finshed in top spot after qualifing, Lexi Nicholl took out the title after defeating Jacinta in a closely contested final. It was noted that Lexi had to overcome an  injury to her thumb in the final stages of the event displaying championship qualities as she fought to overcome the pain and take out the title.

While Matt Watson from Western Australia won the right to play the highest qualifer and won the first match play game, Kevin McRae from NSW as top qualifier rechallenged and won the title.   This level of competition led to an exciting final series with both bowlers bowling over 200 consistently on challenging lane conditions.  Congratulation to both Matt and Kevin on such a entertaining and fantastic finish to the competition.

Edi De Pellegrin from Werribee Super bowl said "hosting Tenpin Bowling Australia’s premier Youth Event was a privilege and that the entire Werribee Super Bowl staff looked forward to welcoming Australia’s best Youth Bowers to the Werribee Super bowl family".   Edi also commented that "It was also exciting to see the growth in the event which this year saw 128 Youth bowers compete. That’s a big increase from the original 70 participants who took part 5 years ago" she said.

The event culminated in a fantastic relaxed and enjoyable Presentation Dinner at the Scolaro's Family resturant, followed by Youth Bowlers dancing the night away.

Gillian Thompson-Rogers TBA's CEO thanked all of the members of the Tournament team for all of their considerable hard work and effort and congratulated Werribee Super Bowl staff on hosting yet another outstanding youth tournament.
