NSW SUCCESS at the Nationals

Team NSW takes home a bag of medals and awards from the 2017 Adult Nationals

After 23 days of competition at the 2017 Adult National Championships held at Wyncity in Victoria NSW has walked away with 4 Gold Medals, 3 Silver Medals, 2 Bronze Medals, an All-Stars Award, a Chairperson's Award and a Director's Award as well as 2 300 games.

It all started with the Restricted Team when Renee Waters and Reanna Skora won the Women's Doubles Silver. This then sparked the team into action with a Gold Medal in the Women's Teams, a Bronze Medal in the Men's Teams which lead to a Men's Bronze Medal overall and a Women's Gold Medal. The pointscore was enough to catapult the team into Gold Medal position for the Combined Pointscore and be the Champion Team for 2017 in Restricted.

The Seniors was always going to be a tough ask to follow as this year no ladies team was sent. A great performance on Day 2 saw Jim Bakirtzidis and Steve Lenton take home the Men's Doubles Gold and add to the NSW tally.

A slower start by the Rachuig Team had NSW within contention but not sitting in the medals after Day 1. It was a solid Day 2 performance that moved the team within striking distance for a great crack on the final day of competition. A 32 points haul by the Men's team saw them climb the leader board and finish with a Silver Medal and only finish behind the Queensland Men by 4.5 points. The Women were more consistent than the Men swapping between Silver and Bronze and ended up with a Bronze Medal which meant NSW clutched the Silver Overall.

Some stand our individual performances saw 3 more awards given to NSW athletes. a 231.7 average during Rachuig saw Men's Captain and NSW TBA Chairperson Dion Alexander make the All-Stars Team. Alexia Hicks was awarded the Director's Award after narrowly missing the Women's All-Stars Team as did Stephen Reynolds who was presented with the Chairperson's Award.

The three weeks were some of the most successful for NSW and we are already looking forward to greater success in 2018!
