A Bakirtzidis Clean Sweep and Records Smashed!

Category: NSW News, NSW State Championships News

Wrap-up of the first Weekend of the 2016 State Championships

The 2016 NSW State Championships has kicked off in tremendous fashion with the 16 year Men's Open Singles record being smashed in the 2nd squad of the Championships by Jayden Panella. With games of 279, 279 and 255 the 813 surpassed the record established by Sigbjorn Dugal in 2000 of 807. In a weekend of record smashing the Men's A Grade All-Events, Ladies B Grade Singles, Mixed A Grade Doubles, Mixed Open Team, Mixed Adult B Grade Teams and Mixed Adult Classic Teams were all broken.

These were not the only records broken over the weekend. The Seniors Masters win by Jim and Noelle Bakirtzidis made them the first couple to have taken out the Seniors Masters in the same year. Jim fought off a fast starting Defending Champion Steve Lenton in the best of two final on Sunday to claim the title for the first time.

While there were no records broken in the Adult Restricted Masters the most competitive field we have seen to date contested the final. The victors Kerrie Charry and Clinton French both from Regional settings took out the Masters Crowns with some very impressive scores and in the end quite convincingly.

The ultimate celebration of bowling did not disappoint with Nathan Jenner also being crowned the NSW Summer Phantom League Champion in front of the Championships crowd.

The question is how will Week 2 top Week 1? The answer get involved and see how! Squads are still available for Saturday 13th February with good availability in the morning. If you want to join the action register now by emailing your entries to Full results are available on Tenpin Results.
