Queensland's Brian Pilkington won his first major
title in taking out the 2006 South Australia Cup
at AMF Cross Road in Adelaide. Pilkington dominated
the season opener of the Australian Super 6 series
in qualifying with a 200 pin lead over his next
nearest rival and carried this through into the
final day to secure a win under duress.
A storm swept through Adelaide just
prior to the start of qualifying and destroyed the
air conditioning unit at AMF Cross Road. Outside air
temperature in Adelaide over this weekend was in the
mid 30s Celsius. Temperature inside the bowl was not
much different.
Pilkington averaged 211.90 for 29
games and compiled a 5-4 won-lost record in match
play to finish with 6245 pinfall total. 2005 Australian
national rankings winner George Frilingos finished
second for the second consecutive year. Frilingos
went 6-3 in match play to secure the second place
with 6173 total. Australian national youth team member
Michael Zentveld finished 20 pins behind Frilingos
in third place due to his 5-4 record in match play.
Defending champion Jason Belmonte ended up in 9th
position. |
