The Hobart Cup made a welcome
return to AMF Moonah after a 13 year absence
with good interest of entries from both local
and mainland states in the lead up to the October
2006 Australian National Championships.
Paul Trotter lead the way early
in A Squad qualifying with a solid 443 block,
with Matt O’Brien improving early to have
a slice of the lead after the second block at
+7. Paul Trotter and Mac Stewart remained consistent
to be the only bowlers over the card after the
third block. Ann-Maree Putney then strung together
a nice series of 4 games to take over 2nd place
with a block remaining.
Thirteen bowlers formed B Squad
in their bid to qualify for day two’s
matchplay. Tasmanian junior bowler Greg Elkin
impressed with consistent scores through his
10 games and earned himself a spot in the top
14 with a 197 average. Various bowlers filled
spots in the top 14 at sometime through this
squad but only Adam Johnson was to remain in
the top 14 at the completion of B Squad.
2005 National Rankings Winners,
Ann-Maree Putney (Women), Glen Loader (Youth
Male) and Ingrid Coburn (Senior Female) also
feature in the top 14. High game through qualifying
was a 259 by Matt O’Brien who missed the
cut by the smallest of margins. |
